About the Store: Rosie Rees
Rosie Rees is a relationship and intimacy coach based in Perth, Australia. She also specializes in yoga, meditation, and bodywork energetic healing. Rosie sells two crystal sex toy products: the Rose Quartz Pleasure Wand and the Jade Egg kegel exercisers. I think Rosie is a very unique sex toy retailer: it isn’t often you run into retailers who are active in the community and work to empower people’s sexuality.
Shipping and Packaging
My order was placed on Feb 15 and I received my package on Feb 24. I was expecting shipping to take much longer because my package had to travel from Australia to Canada. The box that arrived was a simple, neat, brown box. Nowhere on the box did it indicate its store origin or its contents, so shipping was very discreet. Inside the box, the Rose Quartz Pleasure Wand was packed tightly in between bubble wrap inside of a plastic zip bag (pictured).
Physical Details
One of the neat things about having a dildo made from a natural material is that it feels unique. This is no cookie-cutter lump of silicone or plastic. This rose quartz has changes in colouring and transparency and blemishes that I know are unique to this dildo only.
I’ve never owned anything made from rose quartz, but I like it. Rose quartz is the crystal of love. More specifically, it is said to give those who hold it a higher sense of self-love and compassion for others.
This wand is very pretty: a small tip gently tapers wider towards the other end. My wand is predominantly a beautiful soft pink colour, but it has flecks and streaks of white crystal weaved throughout it. The translucent quartz has been polished to a seamless glassy sheen, so it’s very smooth to the touch and there is nothing sharp or jagged about its body. The result? A very smooth and textureless surface throughout.
Physically, this wand is very small, smaller than I was expecting. At 15 cm in length, it’s not the shortest dildo I have, but it’s definitely the most narrow. The smallest end is 1 cm in width and the largest end is 2.5 cm in width. In other words, the largest part of this wand has a circumference of around 3 inches, significantly lower than the average circumference of a penis.
Being made from natural stone, this wand is very eco-friendly and non-toxic. There are no chemicals to worry about. Because it’s been polished to a glassy surface, it isn’t porous. I suggest that you clean this toy before and after each use with soap and warm water. If you are using this crystal wand spiritually, you could add Rosie Rees’ suggestion that you clean this stone energetically by:
cleansing the wand in the ocean, under a full moon, or in some sea salt and water at home. This washes the energy off the wand from the manufacturer and myself (from packaging). It resets the crystal and infuses your energy into the crystal.”
Because it doesn’t have a flared base, this toy isn’t compatible with a harness and isn’t safe for anal play. I suggest using a water-based lubricant with this toy.
My Experience with the Rosie Rees Rose Quartz Pleasure Wand
One of the neat things about stone is that it holds temperature very well. It will remain cold for some time if you don’t warm it up before use, and so it works great for cold/heat sensory play. Quartz seems to take longer than other materials like glass and silicone to heat up to body temperarture, so I suggest warming it up beforehand if you don’t want an icy dildo. The first time I used it, I made the mistake of skipping this step because I assumed it would absorb a lot of heat and match my own body temperature quickly, but it doesn’t, and it remained chilly for some time. I suggest placing it in a bowl full of hot water for 4-5 minutes. It’ll continue to give off heat for some time after you take it out, which is something I love!
This was my first stone dildo and my first stone toy asides from the Rosie Rees Jade Egg set. I LOVE that it’s completely scent-free and taste-free, a hallmark of its earthy non-toxic material. My vagina gets irritated very easily by chemicals, which is why I only vaginally use silicone, glass, stone, and glazed wood products. This feels clean and non-toxic in use, something I appreciate.
In terms of sexual pleasure, I’ve found this wand to be too narrow for my taste. I can’t discern much inside of me when using the narrow 1 cm end because it’s no larger than a thin finger. I definitely prefer to use the wider 2.5 cm end, but then I run into the problem of the thin end acting as a very small and difficult-to-hold-onto handle. It’s easier to hang onto if I don’t insert it very much and only use very shallow thrusts.
Narrow in itself isn’t always bad. Indeed, narrow can really work sometimes if it supports a g-spot curve. But it’s difficult to make narrow and straight work for me.
I have found that the best position for me is to lie on my side and reach around the back of my leg to thrust the toy in. In that position, it’s somewhat easier to hold onto the narrow handle. This way, it’s also easier target my g-spot by turning the wand up towards my pubic bone. In the five times that I’ve used this toy though, I haven’t been able to have a blended orgasm. While I’ve simultaneously stimulated myself with my favourite clitoral vibe, this wand just hasn’t been able to provide my g-spot the direct, broad, and firm pressure it needs for a blended orgasm.
One thing I love about this polished quartz is that a little bit of lubricant goes a long way. There is no drag when thrusting, only a smooth, seamless gliding.
Overall
For these reasons, I can’t but help to wish that the Rose Quartz Pleasure Wand was scaled up a few sizes: I think it needs to be both longer and wider. The size as it stands now may be alright for someone who is new to insertable toys, but I am used to girthy toys (and a girthy male partner), which renders this toy unable to woo my vagina into the bliss I was hoping for. Of course, not all bodies are alike, and so experiences may differ. If you know your body responds positively to being penetrated by – for instance – a straight finger, and you’re happy with shallow thrusts, then I’d give this one a go. After all, this is one stunning wand.
