Review: Womanizer Starlet

May 5, 2018 by Miss Ruby Leave a Comment

The Womanizer Starlet is an itsy bitsy teensy weensy version of my favourite pressure wave toy, the Womanizer Pro40. So of course, I needed to test and compare them rigorously. For science. Read on for my Womanizer Starlet review!

UPDATE: The (improved) Starlet 2 is now available here!

Physical Details

An image of the womanizer starlet

The Womanizer Starlet is the latest in the long and epic line of Womanizer toys. Like previous models, the Starlet pleasures the clitoris without any direct contact — instead, it uses a series of pressure waves (tiny little micro-suctions). Sound wonky? Maybe. But it works.

Womanizer was the first brand to come out with this idea, and there have been several similar designs (most notably by Satisfyer). Womanizer themselves has regurgitated this idea again and again. Having tried several, it’s safe to say that the Womanizer Pro40 (review here) has remained my favourite toy in this genre. That’s not to say I’m not curious about new models though; I’m loyal to sex toys only to a point — I’m always willing to see if new ones can overthrow my previous favourites.

Enter the Womanizer Starlet. Isn’t it cute? Though also available in fuchsia or purple, I’m a fan of the Snow colour. Clean silver and white = blissful simplicity.

The design of this model is simple and traditional. There is a white silicone “stimulation head” that’s removable for easy cleaning. The body is tiny; on the back, there’s a single round button for functions. On the front, below the head, there’s a flexible charging port cover that you pull up when you’re ready to charge. In short: it’s a condensed version of previous Womanizer models. This toy is also lightweight, weighing a mere 70 grams.

To hear about noise and intensity, read below in “My Experience.”

How to Use the Womanizer Starlet

Press the single round button for 2 seconds to switch on the Womanizer Starlet. It’ll start on the soft setting. Apply the silicone head to your clitoris (or other body parts, like a nipple or a small area of a penis). If you’re using this clitorally, you’ll want to place it so that the cup of the head rests over your clitoris (if your clitoris can tuck inside, that’s even better). If you want to increase the intensity, press the button again. To turn it off, press the button for 2 seconds.

Including the first soft setting, there are 4 intensity levels. There are no patterns.

To charge your Womanizer Starlet, lift up the flat rectangular flap to expose the charging hole. Insert the USB (included) and plug it into your computer or a USB wall adaptor. A light will flash while charging; once it’s fully charged, the light will be a solid red.

Packaging

Packaging

I quite like the packaging with this model. It’s fresh, sleek, and minimalist. The Womanizer Starlet comes in a simple white and clear plastic case. Inside, you receive the Starlet, a multi-lingual instruction booklet, and the USB charging cord. There is no storage pouch included.

Material and Care

The Womanizer Starlet is made of silicone and ABS plastic. The part that nestles against your body, the white cap, is silicone. Silicone is non-porous, non-toxic, and sterilizable.

To clean, remove the silicone head and clean with warm, soapy water. You can also rinse the body itself separately. Once both are dry, put the silicone head back on.

If you’d like to add lubricant, I recommend opting for a good quality water-based one like my favourite Sliquid H2O. Adding lubricant is doubly useful because it’ll help promote an air-lock fit.

My Experience with the Womanizer Starlet

(Womanizer Starlet versus Womanizer Pro40)

I can’t review the Womanizer Starlet without comparing it to my current favourite: the Womanizer Pro40. So: how does the Womanizer Starlet compare to the Womanzer Pro40?

The Womanizer Starlet is much smaller

Well, let’s get the obvious out of the way first, shall we? The Womanizer Starlet is a lot smaller and, in a sense, more manageable.  It’s about 50% the height of the Pro40, making it a lot easier to store.

It doesn’t make it easier to hold, though. I like the Womanizer Pro40‘s longer handle because it’s easier to hold during use. The Starlet takes a more space-efficient approach to design; condensed as much as possible, it’s functional but awkward to hold, especially if your hand gets slippery.

The Womanizer Starlet is less intense but noisier

The Womanizer Starlet doesn’t have as much power as the Pro40. It’s close, and not really a huge difference, and it’s still intense enough for my needs. But the micro-suctions seem to occur at a lower frequency, giving them a rough (?) feel. The Pro40 feels like a smooth, creamy purr; the Starlet feels jarring. I personally can still orgasm with the Starlet, but the experience is less smooth or pleasurable compared to the Pro40.

There are also fewer options for intensities — you have 4 levels with the Starlet, whereas the Pro40 gives you a smooth crescendo of 8 increasingly-strong levels.

The noise also differs. While they’re both equally noisy when the heads aren’t in contact with anything, the Pro40 is virtually silent when pressed up against you. In contrast, the Starlet is still audible.

The Womanizer Starlet only comes with one head

While the Womanizer Pro40 comes with two heads (one regular size and one XL for a larger surface area), the Starlet only comes with one regular size head. I actually prefer the larger head that comes with the Pro40 because, for me, it stimulates the area directly around the clitoris, which is great.  Though I can put that head on this smaller Starlet model, I can only do that because I already have that larger head option — if you want it, you’ll have to purchase it separately.

The Womanizer Starlet uses one function button

The Womanizer Pro40 has three buttons because it has more space to accommodate them; it has a power button (on/off), a (+) button, and a (–) button. I’m a fan of this because when you click to go to a higher intensity and you realize it’s actually WAY too intense (which is easy with these types of toys), you can easily flip back to where you were. On the other hand, the Starlet has one button so you’ll need to cycle through all the levels to get back to the one you wanted.

The Womanizer Starlet is less expensive

So, here’s the thing: while in my opinion the Womanizer Starlet doesn’t perform as well as the Pro40, it’s a great deal cheaper. The Starlet rings up at $79 USD, compared to the Pro40’s $129 price tag. That’s $50 right there, and I can see why you’d be tempted to opt for the Starlet instead.

Overall

The Womanizer Starlet is a smaller and cheaper option for people looking for a suction-based toy. It doesn’t perform as well as my favourite Womanizer Pro40 (full review here) though; it’s less intense, more awkward to hold and use, and noisier.

If the $129 USD Pro40 model is outside of your budget, then the Starlet could act as an introduction toy for this genre. Still, it’d be best if you wait and save for the Pro40; it remains my favourite and the model I most confidently endorse.
