Design
The ROMP Hype is a super attractive vibrator.
Designed for G-spot use, the Hype features a gently curved body, pretty ridges along the top (for textured stimulation), a mildly flexible shaft, and a squishy area at the tippy tip.
It’s the colours that first drew me in though. The body is coated in bright cheery red silicone — it’s kind of a peachy, watermelon red, very refreshing. At the end of the handle, the body is capped with a lemon yellow ABS plastic portion. These colours are just delicious!
The Hype comes with 6 steady vibration levels and 4 patterns, plus it’s waterproof, USB rechargeable and bodysafe. For only $34.99 USD, this is pretty swell.
About ROMP
ROMP appeared on the scene this year with a line of colourful, affordable bodysafe products. In addition to this G-spot vibrator, there’s also:
- ROMP Jazz, a rabbit vibrator in bright red.
- ROMP Juke, a vibrating penis ring in light blue.
- ROMP Shine, a battery-operated budget pressure wave stimulator in orange (cheaper than the ROMP Free).
- ROMP Switch, a pink, large pressure wave stimulator (pricier than the ROMP Free).
- ROMP Beat, a bullet vibrator in purple.
- ROMP Wave, a layon-style vibrator in green.
- ROMP Flip, a wand vibrator in deep emerald blue.
All of these are priced at shockingly low prices — between $24-$49 USD, which is a rarity for bodysafe, silicone vibrators. Nearly all of these are rechargeable and waterproof too.
Accessibility
This section is to help folks determine if they might have any issues using/accessing this toy.
- Size: The ROMP Hype is an average-sized G-spot vibrator. By my measurements, it’s 21 cm long (total) by 3.3 cm wide at the tip.
- Weight: It’s not a particularly heavy toy (only approx. 170 grams).
- Buttons: The 2 control buttons are located towards the base. They are barely raised but you can feel them with your fingertips. They take quite a bit of pressure to press down and make a very quiet ‘click’ noise. The buttons are small (about 7mm wide and 1mm tall), with a 3mm gap between them.
- Handle buzz: A few vibrations transfer throughout the body to the handle. Your hand will buzz a little while holding this, but not much.
- Other notes: If you have visual difficulties, you may have trouble finding the tiny charging port. It’s hard to feel with your hands — it’s a tiny hole on the underside, close to the ridge that caps the Hype at the bottom. You’ll need to push through the center with the needle-end of the charging cord.
- Price: At $34.99 USD, this is inexpensive compared to other G-spot vibrators with similar features.
How to Use the ROMP Hype
- Turn on the ROMP Hype by pressing the power button (at the base) for 2 seconds.
- Tap the top button (looks like a pulse icon) to cycle through 6 steady levels and 4 pattern modes.
- Apply it to your body. Though designed for G-spot stimulation, you could of course use this against your clitoris, nipples, or the shaft of a penis. However, this is not anal-safe as there’s no flared base.
- To turn it off, press and hold the power button for 2 seconds.
Packaging
The ROMP Hype comes in colourful red and yellow packaging. It feels like good quality and the design is modern and refreshing.
Inside the box, you receive the Hype, a USB charging cable, an instructions manual (which opens up on the other side to a “pleasure for the people” print-out), and a sheet of awesome stickers.
The Hype doesn’t come with a dedicated storage pouch. If you’d like to have one (not necessary, but always nice), you can browse for some here.
Material and Care
The ROMP Hype is made from silicone (the body) and ABS plastic (the yellow cap at the handle), making it bodysafe.
It’s also fully waterproof, so you can submerge it underwater — try it out during your next bubble bath.
To clean, I rinse it in warm, soapy water before and after each use. You can also add a toy cleaner. Allow to air dry before storing it away.
If you’d like to use lubricant with this toy, choose a good quality water-based lube like my favourite basic, paraben-free Sliquid H2O.
To recharge the ROMP Hype, use the included USB charging cable; plug in the needle end into the little hole on the underside. Plug that cord into your computer or a USB wall adapter.
My Experience with the ROMP Hype
So, is the ROMP Hype worth $34.99?
Vibrations and Sound
I was surprised how strong the ROMP Hype‘s vibrations are. They’re what I consider moderately strong (7/10). It’s no Magic Wand Rechargeable, but for a small, inexpensive toy like this, I was pleased.
More importantly, the vibrations have a rumbly undertone (rather than buzzy), which means the vibrations feel like they can penetrate deeper and aren’t limited to the top surface levels.
I was happy to discover that they’re even strong enough and rumbly enough for clitoral orgasms, which gives the ROMP Hype a convenient double use. The very squashy tippy tip gives clitoral stimulation a cushioned experience, but it doesn’t dull the vibrations. It’s always nice to have a toy versatile enough to deliver both clitoral and G-spot pleasure.
Noise wise? This thing is quiet. There’s no way anyone could hear this through your bedroom walls. Bravo, ROMP.
G-spot pleasure
So how well does this actually perform for G-spot pleasure?
The ROMP Hype feels decent against the G-spot. With its narrow shaft, it slips in easily without fuss. It gives moderate pressure, and I like the textured ridges, but it’s unfortunately held back by its slightly-bendy shaft and the gently curved shaft.
For a G-spot toy, the bendy shaft makes little sense to me. The G-spot needs really firm pressure, but when I try to apply that with the Hype, the shaft is forced to bend away.
The shaft also isn’t curved enough for super intense G-spot stimulation. Had the shaft been more curved/hooked, it’d be easier to target the G-spot.
For example, check out the curvature difference between the Blush Noje V1 and the ROMP Hype:
The Blush Noje V1, which is about $15 more, has a totally rigid body and a very dramatically curved/hooked shaft. That helps the Blush Noje V1 to hook around your pubic bone and really dig into the G-spot. I personally get MUCH more intense stimulation with the Noje V1‘s design.
While I still like the ROMP Hype, it simply will never give as intense G-spot stimulation as something like the Noje V1.
Still, the Hype is soooo inexpensive… I think despite my whining, this toy is still absolutely worth the price.
ROMP Hype Review – Overall Thoughts
The ROMP Hype has a lot of good things going for it.
It’s waterproof, rechargeable, silicone, and oh-so-pretty. The vibrations are decent and rumbly, which helps this toy double as a clitoral vibrator.
When it comes to G-spot stimulation, it does okay — but it’ll never give as intense G-spot stimulation as something like the Blush Noje V1, which has a totally rigid body and a properly hooked shaft.
But for a $34 USD sex toy, it’s hard to complain. If you’re looking for a gorgeous sex toy for both clitoral and G-spot stimulation, and one that won’t break the bank, this is still one for the wishlist.
