Is it just me, or does this kind of look like the beak of an exotic bird. Like a black flamingo, maybe, one that vibrates?? Read on for my Hot Octopuss Amo review!

Design
The Amo is a new bullet vibrator that’s come out of Hot Octopuss, a UK brand famed for its vibrating penis sleeves. They put out sophisticated-looking toys — always black and sleek and deliciously streamlined. The Hot Octopuss Amo carries on their aesthetic tradition.
Black with a metallic red ombré handle, the Amo is beautifully designed. The body sweeps and swells to a thick, pointed stimulation tip, one that has a satisfying amount of squish to the silicone. The buttons are subtle depressions on the sides of the toy. The red ombré handle is delicately embossed with the company’s logo, a crown.
Overall, it’s an eye-catching design. Very understated, almost demure, nothing too noisy or busy.

Hot Octopuss Amo versus DiGiT (Design)
The Hot Octopuss Amo is the non-finger-vibe version of the Hot Octopuss DiGiT, which I reviewed a few weeks back. While the DiGiT had a lot of good things going for it, I couldn’t stand the annoying finger loops. That’s why I wanted the Amo — it looks like the sister vibe of the DiGiT, but hopefully without the annoying bits.
Design-wise, they’re actually fairly different:
- Length: The Hot Octopuss Amo has a longer body and handle than the DiGiT.
- Body: The Amo’s body widens at the tip much more than the DiGiT’s body.
- End: The Amo’s body comes to a tippy tip at the end, whereas the DiGiT’s body is simply rounded at the end.
- Colour: The Amo’s accent colour is a deep red. The DiGiT’s accent colour is rose gold.
- Loops: The Amo obviously doesn’t have the hard plastic finger loops that the DiGiT has.

How to Use the Hot Octopuss Amo
- There are 3 buttons on the Hot Octopuss Amo – 1 on the side with the charging port and 2 on the opposite side.
- To turn on the Amo, press the button by the charging port for 2 seconds. It’ll turn on at its lowest speed.
- To change speed, press the buttons on the opposite side of the charging port. The increase button is the one closest to the tip of the toy.
- I count 5 steady speeds/strengths.
- To activate patterns, briefly tap the power button. There are 5 patterns.
- Apply against your body. While designed for clitoral stimulation, this could totally be used against nipples or a penis. However, I don’t recommend it for internal stimulation.
- To turn off, hold the power button for 2 seconds.
Packaging
The Hot Octopuss Amo comes packaged in a shiny dark pink box. The vibrator is clearly pictured on the front of the box. While the packaging doesn’t have the feel of a high-ticket luxury item, it still feels nice and cute. The packaging has the British flag on the side (seeing as this is a British company), and I love it.
Inside the box, you receive the Amo, a USB charging cable, a black quickstart manual, and an information booklet with technical info.
There isn’t any storage pouch included. If you’d like a pouch, consider adding something like this to your shopping cart.
Material and Care
The Hot Octopuss Amo is made with silicone (the body) and ABS plastic (the handle). This means that the toy is bodysafe (free of phthalates, latex) and non-porous. You couldn’t ask for better!
This particular silicone finish is matte and gloriously silky. Matte finishes like this can also collect dust pretty well, so bear that in mind.
To clean, I simply rinse it in warm, soapy water before and after use. The Hot Octopuss Amo is waterproof which makes cleaning easier, and feel free to take it in the tub with you.
To charge, insert the needle of the included charging cable into the visible hole on the side of the toy. Plug the cord into your computer or a USB wall adaptor. A full charge will take 2-3 hours and will get you up to 40 minutes of playtime. This isn’t a great charge:play ratio.
The Hot Octopuss Amo comes with a 1-year manufacturer’s warranty for defects. See the manual for details.
I really recommend you use lubricant with this toy. Because this is a silicone toy, you’ll want to choose a good quality water-based lube like my favourite Sliquid H2O.
My Experience with the Hot Octopuss Amo
When reviewing the Hot Octopuss Amo, I found that this toy is basically like having the Hot Octopuss DiGiT without all of the annoying constrictions! No hard plastic loops to trap your fingers! Huzzah!
The Hot Octopuss Amo‘s vibrations are focused at the tippy tip. Because the head narrows into such a defined tip, you’ll find you can use this a really pin-pointed toy of you wish. If you prefer broader stimulation, you can just adjust your angle so you use the flatter portions of the head. I love the versatility this gives you — the DiGiT‘s rounded head didn’t give me nearly the same pin-point options.
In terms of vibration strength, the Hot Octopuss Amo gives decently strong vibes (7/10). They’re fairly rumbly and identical to the DiGiT’s vibrations. This toy’s orgasms aren’t fierce and sudden; they come on slower/gentler… but still feel fantastic.
Noise wise, the motor is again very quiet. If you have roommates, no one will be able to hear this through walls.
The Hot Octopuss Amo is certainly a better purchase than the Hot Octopuss DiGiT, which is more expensive. I love not having annoying finger loops constricting my movement.
It still suffers from the dreaded hand-numbing though. Like the DiGiT, the Amo’s plastic handle gets a bunch of the vibrations running through it (instead of all going to the tip), so your hand vibrates gently as well. Over time, this gets uncomfortable.
Is this worth the $49 USD price tag?
Sort of. It’s decently strong, quiet, rechargeable, waterproof, and bodysafe… all these things can justify a $49 price tag.
But I KNOW I’ve tried bullet vibes in this price range that were stronger. The Rocks-Off Chaiamo ($44) or the FemmeFunn Ultra Bullet ($49) have all the same luxury features as the Amo, but with a stronger motor. If strength is your #1 priority, you might want to look at those instead. For just $20 more, you can get the legendary We-Vibe Tango ($79). All of those impressed me a ton. But, if the aesthetics of the Amo really appeal to you, this would not be a bad purchase.
Overall – Hot Octopuss Amo review
The Hot Octopuss Amo is a good toy. It comes with luxury features, a gorgeous design aesthetic, and some decently rumbly vibrations. It’s a pretty safe bet — a lot of people will get a lot of satisfaction from this design and strength.
But if strength is the most important thing for you, there are similarly priced bullet vibes that can get you more oomph. Most notably, the Rocks-Off Chaiamo, FemmeFunn Ultra Bullet, and We-Vibe Tango.
But if black and red and beautiful curves is your thing? Then pick one up at Peepshow Toys! Why do I like Peepshow Toys? They ship internationally, only carry body-safe products, and you can get a 10% discount off your whole purchase with coupon code RUBY. That’ll take $4.99 off this toy alone.
