Physical Details
Design:
The Vixen Mustang Royale Dildo by Vixen Creations may look like an ordinary dildo. It isn’t.
Is it magical? Maybe.
The Vixen Mustang Royale Dildo is a realistic piece of work. The shaft curves slightly upwards, complete with light vein detailing, a prominent corpus spongiosum (the thick line running down the underside of the shaft), and a wrinkled foreskin. I’m not sure if my camera quite captures it but, in some lighting, you can see very very fine light striations along the shaft, akin to the natural surface of the skin you’d find on a penis.
The shaft tapers up to a wrinkled foreskin section, which itself gathers into a perfect frenulum. The head itself is large and attention-grabbing. The coronal ridge is bold (now I sound like I’m describing wine), jutting out at a sharp angle for G-spot stimulation. There is a urethral dent, but it is tiny and easy to miss.
It’s also a good standard-sized dildo. Compared to other dildos in my collection, it’s definitely on the smaller end of the spectrum (my vagina has big eyes), but when I remind myself of the actual measurements, it’s not a tiny toy. At 6 inches of insertable length and 1.5 inches wide, I think this dildo’s measurements will suit most. It’s definitely not too large for someone new to penetrative stimulation, but it’s still large enough to provide noticeable internal stimulation. Size queens may want to look elsewhere, like to the giant Vixen Outlaw.
I got my Mustang Royale in Vanilla, which is a rosy cream shade. While I’ve always preferred my dildos to be tan or darker, this colour has definitely grown on me. The base is a fun, vibrant purple.
If you don’t like this colour, it’s also available in Caramel (a tan shade) and Chocolate (a dark brown).
Thanks to the flared base, this toy is O-ring harness compatible and safe for anal use. Around the base of the toy, the shaft is closer to 2 inches in width, so I recommend a 2 inch O-ring for your strap-on harness.
Firmness:
For those of you who don’t know, VixSkin simply refers to the dual-density design created by Vixen Creations. VixSkin dildos have a firm inner core surrounded by an outer layer of soft, squishy silicone. And I mean really squishy. The head (which doesn’t have a firm inner core) is basically a big pale sugar-free gummy bear. The wrinkled foreskin is cushy. I can pull some of the skin from the upper shaft to the side of the shaft. It’s just all so…plushy. Like a pillow. A pillow for your vagina or butt. A dildo pillow.
Does this confuse you? The slang phrase hard as rock may be sexy when it comes to penises, but not necessarily when it comes to silicone dildos. For me, very hard dildos that have fine texture feel like a cheese grater on my vaginal walls. Plus they punch my cervix. Not cool. This is why, when it comes to realistic silicone dildos, I always prefer squishy. And, thanks to the firmer inner core, the squishiness here doesn’t compromise thrusting or stimulation. It can still bend, definitely, but it holds up perfectly when thrusting.
Saddle Base:
The Vixen Mustang already exists. This is the Vixen Mustang Royale. Instead of a flat base, the Vixen Mustang Royale Dildo has a “saddle base,” which is designed to increase stimulation for the wearer during strap-on play.
Basically, there are two projections on either side of the base. One is flat-ish and broad, the other pointy and narrow. The first is meant to add clitoral sensation and the other is meant to tease your vaginal opening. Though the base is made from firm silicone, both projections are made from squishy soft silicone.
I’ll go into how the saddle base performs in My Experience below.
Material and Care
The Vixen Mustang Royale Dildo is made from 100% silicone, making it completely non-toxic, non-porous, and durable. With proper care, it’ll last a lifetime (which is why the manufacturer guarantees your purchase with a lifetime warranty). Silicone can be sterilized, meaning that you can use this for both vaginal and anal use (and between partners), granted that you sterilize between switching. To sterilize your Vixen Mustang Royale, you can boil it for 3 minutes. For regular everyday cleaning that doesn’t require sterilization, I simply wash mine with warm water and mild anti-bacterial soap. This dildo doesn’t come with a storage pouch, so I store mine in a clear ziplock bag. Always use a water-based lubricant with this toy (and I suggest one of these).
The material itself is sticky and matte. It’s not glossy, and hair and dust absolutely flock to its surface. For that reason, you’ll probably find that you’ll, right before use, you’ll want to wash it, drizzle lubricant, and then carefully carry it so that it does not touch *any* hairy surfaces. Which, in my cat-filled (okay, 2 cats) household, is pretty much everywhere.
Shipping and Packaging
Purchases through Lovehoney are always quick and discreet. My order was processed on August 6th, shipped on August 7th, and received on August 14th. I received a plain brown box with no mention of “Lovehoney” anywhere. The VixSkin comes packaged in a clear, plastic tube.
My Experience with the Vixen Mustang Royale
When I first started reviewing sex toys, I heard hushed whispers about the VixSkin line of dildos. It’s amazing, they said. It’s legendary. And, as I went on to find out, everyone wants to know how other dual densities compare to VixSkin. Suffice it to say, VixSkin is a pretty big deal in my community of sex toy bloggers, and I was desperate to get my hands on one.
Well, in short, Vixen Mustang Royale Dildo lives up to the hype.
There are a rare few dildos that click with me right away. These are ones that I don’t need to warm up to, that I find immediately stimulating, that I want to go from 0 to 100 (in the “mad thrusting scale”) right away. This is one of those dildos.
From the get-go, I was surprised by just how good everything felt. That prominent head, which would painfully catch on my pubic bone had it been a hard plastic, just kind of melts and molds against my walls.
Thanks to the Vixen Mustang Royale Dildo‘s curved shaft and the raised coronal ridge, I also get to enjoy great G-spot stimulation. Is it one of those dildos that zones in immediately and holds your G-spot in blissful hostage? No. But it doesn’t neglect the G-spot either. I don’t have G-spot orgasms, but this toy enhances my clitoral orgasms a ton, taking my clitoral orgasms from Moan to Scream levels of intensity.
I can’t quite get the full body of the shaft in, as this dildo is just a pinch longer than my vagina, but its soft, pillowy head means that, even if I do bump my cervix, there’s no pain. This is a simple point but it’s also incredibly important to me. It means that I can thrust very fast and vigorously without worrying about hurting myself, something that makes this dildo indispensable to me.
It doesn’t hurt either that sort of material feels amazing when it’s slick with lubricant. I drizzle a light coating right before use and it keeps slick and slippery, which of course lends itself well to frenzied thrusts. It does use up lubricant quickly though, so keep your bottle close.
Perhaps due to the squishiness, I don’t pick up fine texture from the surface of this toy. In other words, I can’t feel the veins and such. Personally, I prefer dildos this way. I can, however, feel the coronal ridge; I can also pick up a slight bump from the wrinkled foreskin section.
And there is, of course, the realism factor. I get to have the pleasure of squeezing my Kegels around the body of the dildo. My vaginal walls, regrettably, aren’t as tactile as my fingers, so I can’t pick up the firmer inner core, but it still feels lovely to grasp and hold it. This, dear readers, feels really sexy.
So how about the curious saddle base, then?
Though my primary use of the Vixen Mustang Royale Dildo is as a standard thrusting dildo for myself, I tried it out several times in a harness. The saddle base, overall, feels better than a standard flat base but isn’t, in itself, majorly orgasmic for me. Obviously, vulvas are built differently so this may just have to do with my own personal dimensions, but hear me out.
The clitoral horn (saddles have horns, okay) is definitely the best part of the base, as it snaps right into place against my clitoris IF I position the harness so that the dildo is slightly lower than it usually is. When I do this, the clitoral horn can make contact, and it feels nice and squishy and sensuous and — dare I say it — stimulating. The more I thrust and move about, the more it squishes against and around my clitoris. Can this bring my clitoris to orgasm? Nope. But it feels nice, and it certainly adds something to the mix.
The bottom/vaginal horn doesn’t actually reach my vagina. I was hoping that the tip of that end would dip inside, but it doesn’t even come close for me. Instead, the bottom simply curves comfortably around my vulva.
Based on this, I don’t think the saddle base can be considered orgasm-making-material by itself. For me, the saddle base transforms a usually-boring flat base into something that is comfortable and even sensuous, but not super stimulating. I’m totally happy with this. This works for me. And, for this reason, I think the Mustang Royale is definitely something to consider if you intend to use this dildo primarily for strap-on play.
Vixen Mustang Royale Dildo review – Overall thoughts
In sum, the Vixen Mustang Royale Dildo is a keeper. It’s definitely one of my favourites, thanks to the immediately-stimulating design and feel. The VixSkin dual-density silicone certainly lives up to its name, providing me with realism I can’t get from most dildos. As for the saddle base? I find it mildly stimulating, but not orgasmic. But I still enjoy the saddle base because it hugs my pubic mound, rendering it certainly more comfortable than a flat base. For people who aren’t going to use this in a harness, the standard Vixen Mustang will do. But for users who intend to use this dildo primarily for strap-on play, I don’t think you can go wrong with upgrading to the Vixen Mustang Royale Dildo.
