I’m neat?? Does that mean someone likes my blog?!
So, apparently a few kind souls think that my blog is neat. A big thank you to Naughty Reenie, Kinky Kitten, Ninja Sexology, Deviant Kitten, Formidable Femme and Perineum Plunders! You ladies (and gent) are awesome. I’m glad that my super bright green, blue, and red blog doesn’t give you too much of a headache for you to think my blog is un-neat.
For those of you who haven’t heard of this award, the Real Neat Blog Award is something going around blogging communities right now. Basically, you answer a few questions below when you’ve been nominated to do so by another blogger. Once you’ve answered these questions, you go on to nominate a few other blogs that you think are neat.
Soooooo…let’s go!
1. Why did you start blogging?
I didn’t put a lot of thought into starting up my blog. I’ve been collecting sex toys for several years now. Last year in 2014, I watched Frisky Business and realized that I wanted to be more involved in the industry (more so than simply being a customer). I’d always had so much to say about my sex toys, but I didn’t have many people to share my thoughts on them. Then, in December 2014, I went on a particularly expensive sex toy shopping splurge…I felt so guilty about spending so much money on toys and my partner suggested that I may feel better if I did something creative with my purchases. That night, I bought my domain and started designing my blog. The following week (during the first few days of Jan 2015) I posted my first review!
2. If your site had a goal, what would it be? How do you feel you’re doing with that goal, right now? How do you feel you’ve done with that goal over all?
Like many other sex toy reviewers, my overall “big picture” goal is to create an informative and sex+ environment where lots of unbiased sex toy reviews are flung about. On a smaller scale, my initial goal was just to get my blog “established.” I didn’t really define that well for myself, but I have 40 reviews under my belt now so I do feel somewhat established. On a micro scale, I like to set myself smaller goals that are quickly achieved and easily monitored, like reviewing specific toys or reaching a certain number of followers. I like setting smaller, more frequent goals for myself because it means I get positive feedback. These are always changing and expanding as I meet each micro-goal. For example, right now, two of my “micro” goals is to reach 1000 twitter followers and to review one (or 5?) of the VixSkin dildos.
3. How has blogging influenced your life?
My life is totally different now than when I started my blog. When I started my blog (January), I was in the middle of a Master of Env. Science degree (that I hated) and I’d just graduated first class with a Bachelors in a subject I had little interest in pursuing as a career. I hadn’t really tapped into my creative side. I hadn’t touched my photography hobby in years. Through blogging, I’ve reminded myself that I’m actually pretty creative and I love to WRITE. This in itself is pretty huge. Years of dry boring academics made me forget this about myself.
Blogging has also majorly improved my sex drive because it’s helped me recapture my sexuality for my own. I was abused as a child and I’m in the middle of a very difficult part of my PTSD recovery, but blogging about sex has somehow helped me feel more in control of my body. It’s pretty damn empowering to write about your orgasms. Y’all should try it sometime.
Lastly, blogging about sex toys has further helped me to let go of a lot of shame I had around enjoying sex. I grew up in a very conservative environment where “sex” was literally considered a super shameful swearword. Sexual pleasure was completely off the table. But, with blogging, I’ve been able to talk openly about masturbation, and I’ve seen everyone in the community talk about their sex life and their fantasies. This has all really helped me break free from a lot of the shame and stigma that I grew up with.
4. What is your favorite part of blogging?
Initially, my favourite part about blogging was taking pretty pictures of awesome toys (yup, I’m a photo nerd). Then my favourite part was receiving packages of sex toys that I’d never be able to afford to buy myself. Now I have to say that my tastes have matured somewhat….now my favourite part is getting to educate people about sex toy safety and meeting the amazing sex blogging community. If any of you reading this is curious about starting your own blog, trust me when I say that the people in this community are awesome! We’re a friendly and happy bunch. I’m a socially awkward hermit but even I feel pretty comfortable with many of these great people.
5. Are you kinky? How did you come to this conclusion?
I don’t think I’m kinky, no. Once in a while I try be super adventurous, but my equilibrium state is very vanilla. I’m not really into porn. I don’t enjoy anal sex. I’m not huge on sensory play. I’d loooove to be able to dirty talk but I always start giggling whenever I try. I do love a good spank, though, and (thanks to this blog) I’m definitely starting to explore light BDSM themes with my partner. I also have a growing love for weird dildos. So…yea…maybe I’m kinky compared to the average nun……maybe I’m getting there.
6. What do you want to be when you grow up?
This is a super hard question. Career aspirations aside (totally clueless on those), I want to be comfortable in my own skin. I want to be free from PTSD triggers. I want to be regularly doing something creative. I want to be a mom. I want to have a house full of cats. I want to be a cat lady with hundreds of dildos on her windowsills.
Joking about the last one. Sort of.
7. What is the most important thing about you that you want everyone to know?
That I’m a major introvert, which doesn’t mean that I don’t want to meet you. It means that I struggle with superficial chatter in a group setting. I love one-on-one chats and I prefer meaningful conversation. Talk to me about the stuff of life that makes your soul fly.
I’m also super interested in people’s stories. I love hearing about your experiences (good or bad). So, please, anytime you want to talk to someone about your sex life, your life, your anything, I’m right here 🙂
