Design
The $85 Nala Wand is a powerful, full-size wand vibrator from Maia.
At first glance, it looks like a fairly standard, typical wand. It has a generous, oblong head for broad-style clitoral pleasure. It has a flexible neck, encircled by a decorative shiny trip. The body/handle is long and streamlined, showing only the Maia Logo and the 3 control buttons.
However, two things set the Maia Nala Wand apart from most other wands on the market:
- It’s waterproof and submersible! Woohoo! This is fairly uncommon for full-size wands, and it’s a huge selling point in my opinion. Who wouldn’t want a relaxing bubble bath with candles, a glass of wine, and a powerful wand vibrator?
- It comes with two power options: cordless or corded. You can charge up the battery and use it as a cordless/rechargeable wand. Alternatively, you can plug it into your wall and it’ll get power that way; this is handy if you forgot to charge it up completely, or you just want to be 100% sure that it can’t run out of power while in use.
The Maia Nala Wand comes in this vivid Turquoise colour; it’s beachy and breezy and I love it.
How to Use the Maia Nala Wand
- There are 3 buttons on the Maia Nala Wand.
- Hold down the power button (middle button) for 3 seconds to power the wand on.
- Press the vibrating head against your body. Though designed for clitoral use, you could use this against other body parts (ie, nipples, your back, or the shaft of a penis). This is not recommended for anal use, though.
- Tap the power button to cycle through the 10 patterns.
- Tap the (+) and (-) buttons to increase or decrease the strength of each pattern. There are 5 strength levels.
- Hold down the power button to turn it off.
I find the controls very intuitive and I like that you can get 50 options (10 patterns x 5 speeds) with so few buttons.
Packaging
The Maia Nala Wand comes packaged in a grey-sleeved box. A jaguar is pictured on the front because this is part of the Fierce line from Maia.
Once you receive the grey sleeve, you’re greeted by a pretty turquoise box with a flip-open lid.
Inside the box, you receive the Nala Wand, a booklet of instructions, a USB charging cord, and a wall power plug.
It doesn’t include a storage bag, so if you’d like a dedicated storage pouch, you can shop for one here. However, any perforated/breathable bag should do.
Material and Care
The Maia Nala Wand is made from silicone (the head) with ABS plastic (the metallic strip around the neck and body). Silicone is a fantastic material for a sex toy because it’s easy to clean, hygienic, and hypoallergenic.
The Maia Nala Wand is fully waterproof submersible! That means you can take it into your bathtub or hot tub… It’s SO rare to find full-size wand vibrators that are submersible, so I was thrilled about this.
To clean, I rinse in warm, soapy water before and after each use.
If you’d like to add lubricant (which I always recommend), try a good quality, water-based lube like my favourite basic Sliquid H2O.
The Maia Nala Wand can be used when corded or cordless. To use the cordless rechargeable battery, make sure you’ve charged the battery. To charge, insert the needle-end of the USB charging cord into the base of the handle. The power button will flash when it’s charging and grow steady when it’s fully charged.
The Maia Nala Wand comes with a 10-year warranty through the manufacturer. See the Maia website for details.
My Experience with the Maia Nala Wand
I didn’t know what to expect from the $85 Maia Nala Wand. Maia is a well-known brand, but I associate it more with smaller and cheaper vibrators… I wasn’t sure how they’d fare in this niche.
To my happy surprise, the Maia Nala Wand is very good. The vibrations are powerful, more powerful than I expected from a cordless sub-$100 wand. They’re strong enough that, when I focus on the clitoris, I can feel the vibrations rumble and travel down the sides of my vulva and reverberate sensitively around my vaginal opening. This is exactly what a strong wand vibrator should be able to do, in my opinion.
The first 3 levels are very rumbly. The 4th and 5th levels are more buzzy…. but, by that point, the vibrations are so strong that they’re pleasurable despite the buzz. Personally, getting to orgasm with this toy is extremely easy for me (which I like, because I don’t always have time to build up slowly).
The top speeds offered are both formidable. I’m a bit of a power queen, so this is perfect. But if you’re someone with a sensitive clitoris or you crave softer speeds, you’ll probably want to stick with the lower, slower speeds.
I’m also loving the two power options. I use this in its cordless option, and I haven’t had the battery run out during use yet… but I don’t always remember to double-check to make sure my vibes are fully charged, and I love knowing that I can switch to plugged-in play if I do run out of battery in the middle of the heat.
The Maia Nala Wand is quite loud. This is probably the biggest drawback. Even with my door closed, if I step out of the room and listen from outside it’s clearly audible. Most full-size wands have this issue, so I’m not surprised, but it’s definitely something to consider if you have flatmates.
Maia Nala Wand Review – Overall Thoughts
The Maia Nala Wand is a great wand vibrator for under $100. Though it sometimes errs on the buzzy side, it is quite powerful and the strength compensates for any buzz just fine. I love the two power options and I LOVE that you can take this into the bathtub. It is a bit noisy, mind you, but if you don’t have to worry about flatmates then you should be good.
